I completed my undergraduate training in Sudan and moved to Ireland after finishing the internship and doing one and a half year of clinical and leadership practice in different settings including family practice, level 2 paediatric unit and a district hospital where I had a fantastic opportunity to lead a team of 25 clinical and non-clinical staff before moving to Ireland

I have worked in Irish Healthcare system for ten years. I have worked in different roles and built a rich, first-hand experience. Starting as a stand-alone Senior House Officer (SHO) then going through the basic specialist training (BST) under the supervision of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland then back to a stand-alone post as a registrar and finally as a Specialist Registrar (SpR) in Paediatrics in which I am in my last year at present.

During this time I have actively participated in many committees and projects both within and outside the clinical facilities. I have served in the Sudanese Doctors Union of Ireland as Membership Officer and then Secretary-General & Vice President for 2 years. I was appointed the Lead NCHD in Mayo University Hospital – a member of Saolta University Healthcare Group in the west and north-west of the country. I was also the RCPI Trainee Representative in the same hospital between July 2017 and July 2018.

I have always been interested in education (medical and general) and helping colleagues from my own experience and leveraging what is available for the best possible outcomes.

These experiences have made me aware of the topic of today by being an active part of many committees and processes such as training committee, local NCHDs committee, critical patient, NCHDs’ induction workshops among others.
